Israel Reach Century Mark Against Britain
// 27 August 2008

Israel scored 100 points in a big EuroBasket Women qualifying game win at Great Britain on Wednesday.

Meirav Dori poured in 20 points and four other Israelis hit double figures in the 100-80 rout.

With the victory, Israel joined Ukraine and Lithuania at the top of the Group A standings with 3-1 records.

Lithuania won their game on Wednesday night against Germany.

Great Britain had a good start and led by 11 in the first quarter, but Israel went on an 11-0 run bridging the opening two periods for a 34-30 lead.

The Brits kept their poise and went back on top 42-37 with just under five minutes remaining in the second quarter.

The wheels then fell off for the hosts as Israel scored the next 20 points in the game for a 57-42 lead with 8:30 left in the third quarter.

By the end of the frame, Israel were in command at 81-60.

There was no way back for Great Britain, who slumped to 1-3 in the standings.

Quotes Great Britain vs. Israel
// 27 August 2008

Mark Clark, GB Head Coach: "Israel executed really well today and at times we allowed them to do so. They shot much better than us throughout the game and thats what helped them take the lead after the first quarter. We didn't react to them taking the lead and once we were chasing them their experience really showed."

"The result reflected the fact that if you let them play their own game then they are an excellent team and that is reflected in the 20 points difference in today's score."

Megan Moody, GB Player: "It was a physical match but that's Division A basketball for you and we need to step up and not shy away. It's disappointing to lose at home by such a margin but we have to move forward as we play the Ukraine on Saturday which is an important game which we need to win."

"At times we executed really well and we had glimpses of being a very good team but then we'd relax too much which would hurt us when we needed to have kept possession. We shouldn't have let Israel come back, you just can't afford to let leads slip in these games."

"Overall yes they put the ball in the net a lot more than us but I don't believe they are 20 points better than us."

Eli Rabi, Israel Head Coach: "I am very proud of my players after a poor start, they didn't give up. We are looking forward to our next game against Lithuania which will be very difficult."

Meirav Dori, Israel Player: "At the beginning it wasn't easy, but once we started to play as team we played better."

"The Welsh crowd was excellent and created a great atmosphere."
