COACH QUOTES

Quotes Belarus vs. Switzerland

Sebastian Roduit (Head Coach, Switzerland):
We've finally managed to get a break today. You see, last couple of weeks have bee rough for us - we lost one of our best shooters Dusan Mladjan, then fell to Albania and after that our best big man Oliver Vogt suffered injury in the game versus Cyprus. And despite all that we showed good basketball today. We've fulfilled our main objective for tonight's game, winning the rebounding battle which was very important given the shortage of bigs on our roster.
Best wishes to Belarus. I'm sure they will win our group. I wish them to qualify to Division A.

Valentin Wegmann (Player, Switzerland):
A very important victory for us. After the shocking loss to Albania we tried to show our best basketball in the following contest versus Cyprus, but for some reason couldn't do it. That's why today we wanted to do our best to show that we can compete against a strong team. Generally speaking, we had nothing to lose. We just fought all the way until the final whistle. And we can be proud of the result.

Aliaksandr Papkou (Head Coach, Belarus):
It was our worst game so far. And still we had a couple of possessions down the stretch when we could turn the situation in our favor. Perhaps a victory in the previous game against Romania had a relaxing impact on the team. Everybody was sure we couldn't lose - and here is the result. Our team shot a measly 37% on mid-range jumpers and lay-ups; we got beaten on the glass, sometimes allowing opponents to grab several consecutive offensive rebounds. It all means that we really lacked determination today. And the Swiss players moved very well, they repeatedly tortured us with penetrations.

Aliaksandr Kudrautsau (Player, Belarus):
First of all, congratulations to team Switzerland who put on a great fight today.
I wish this was the last game we played this badly. For the biggest part, we were just standing still and waiting for things to go our way. Maybe there were reasons for that - for example we've only had two practices here in Mogilev before the game so it's hard to call us hosts here. And still our team showed some character as we cut the opponents' 11-point lead down to almost nothing in the final minutes. I hope better things await us in the future.
