Sepa, Serbia Sink Italy
Filip Sepa poured in 27 points as Serbia blew out Italy 83-54 to clinch second place in Group B of the U18 European Championship Men.
Sepa out-scored the entire Italian team in the first half - 24-22 - and was joined in double figures by Aleksandar Mitrovic (15 points) and Uros Petrovic (12) for Serbia - who improved to 2-1.
Italy shot 33 percent for the game in falling to 1-2 with Nicolò Melli the leading scorer with 11 points.
Italy were able to hang with the Serbs for the first four minutes with the game knotted at 7-7. But Sepa took over the game, hitting two three pointers to spearhead a 17-0 run over the final 5:34 for the first quarter to lead 24-7.
Sepa did not slow down at all in the second frame, knocking down two more long balls and scoring 14 points in the second quarter as Miroslav Nikolic's team opened a 34-point advantage for a 54-22 lead at the break.
The Serbs continued their push in the third period and Dejan Musli's three-pointer increased the lead to 35 points, 59-29. Even with Nikolic beginning to bring on his substitutes, Alessandro Ramagli's Italians could only cut the deficit to 61-33 on Daniele Sandri's jumper.
And it was Serbia ahead 70-39 after three periods. Italy would not get closer until David Reginald Cournooh's basket to finish off the game.
