Spain wrote a scored a big triumph today with a 92-72 victory over the French team in a one sided game.
The win lifted Spain to a 2-2 record with a chance to make it to the semi-finals. France dropped to 2-2 after their second big defeat in a row and will hope to sneak in to what seemed like their sure spot after the Preliminary Round.
"After the big loss to Latvia yesterday we lost our confidence," said the French Head Coach Richard Billant.
"We didn't play tough defense and allowed them too many easy points. We'll have to find the way to connect together and do our best to qualify to the semis."
Victor Claver led the Spanish scoring sheet with 21 points behind five rebounds, four assists and three blocks. Joaquin Colom had a big game with 19 points and 12 assists while Pere Thomas scored 19 with six rebounds.
Edwin Jackson was once again the top scorer of France with 13 points and Abdoulaye Mbaye added 12.
Spain used a weak French start to take a 9-2 early lead, and finish the first quarter with a 16-7 margin.
"We wanted to start the game strong, with tough defense," commented the Spanish Head Coach Gustavo Aranzana.
"When we prepared for the game we knew what we're going to do and we did a good job executing today."
It took five minutes for France to find their next basket and by then the gap was already 13. Colon connected an assist to a three pointer to as the Spanish side took a 36-23 lead at half time.
The domination of the Spanish team was still on and after Ludovic Vaty was called on a double technical foul Colom made it a 20 point difference.
Kim Tillie got a lot of minutes and earned every one of them. He fought back and tried to help his team make the mental change, but after he made it only a 13 point difference early in the fourth, Spain replied with an 11-2 run and showed they have no place for mercy.
"Even after we secured the win we wanted to win by as much as possible, because we knew it could help us in case of a tie-breaker," shared the MVP of the game - Colom.
Spain will take on Russia on the last day while France will try to avoid a third loss against Montenegro.
