GAME REPORT

Lithuania Too Much For Israel

Lithuania stayed perfect after a 77-70 win against a tough Israeli team who showed great spirit for 40 minutes.

Israel missed Sean Daniel who is suspended for three games, and the ill Or Brener while Lithuania enjoyed the new presence of the prospect Donatas Motiejunas, who arrived from Greece where he won the silver medal with the U18 national team.

Already in his first game with the team he scored nine points and grabbed eight rebounds.

The winning side climbed to a 3-0 record while Israel is now closing the group's standings with a 0-3 record.

Five players scored in double-digit for the winning side led by 14 points of Martynas Gecevicius, 13 points were added by Vytenis Lipkevicius and Zygimantas Janavicius added 11.

Israel enjoyed a star performance by Anton Shoutvin who scored 32 points in 13 out of 20 shots, followed by another all-around performance by Gal Mekel with 16 points, seven rebounds, seven assists and three steals.

Shoutvin was hot from the tip off carrying Israel to a 19-8 lead, but Motiejunas showed what he's capable of with four quick points leading a 10-2 run till the end of the first as Israel still held a 21-18 lead.

Inside the second Shoutvin continued his performance and by the 15th minute already picked 18 points, but once he was silenced, Lithuania found Jusekevicius who scored seven deep in the second to give his team a 39-34 lead.

Motiejunas started the third with five points that capped an 18-3 run which started late in the second quarter.

Once Motiejunas got his rest it was time for Gecevicius to carry Lithuania to a 59-42 lead late in the third.

Israel found Shoutvin again in scoring mode and along with Mekel came all the way back to just a 71-67 lag with a minute on the clock.

Lithuania showed they can handle the pressure making six out of eight free throws in the last 47 seconds to decide the game and enjoy another day without familiarity with the taste of a loss.

The perfect Lithuanians will meet Turkey early tomorrow while Israel will look for their first win against Croatia on the last game of the day.
