In a very intense game Russia beat Georgia 69-60 to complete a perfect Preliminary Round in Group D.
Russia finished the group with a 3-0 record and will start the next round with two wins. Georgia finished last with a 0-3 record on the way to the 13-16 Classification Round.
Dmitry Kulagin scored 19 for Russia while Alexander Varnakov added 15.
Merab Bokolishvili led Georgia with 21 points, all of them in the first three quarters.
Russia struggled to connect from long range making only three out of 21 three point attempts, but Georgia wasn't much more accurate from any range tonight.
Georgia was in the game until the last five minutes before a 10-0 run decided the game in favor of Russia.
The group champs wanted to end things fast and took a 13-3 lead after six minutes, but it wasn't going to be that easy.
Bokolishvili stepped up to lead a Georgian run and with six individual points carried Georgie just three points behind after one quarter, 16-13.
Soon after came the tie and no matter how much effort Russia put in starting another run, Georgia was there to reply, and even held a 30-26 lead at the break.
Kulagin started to work his magic and Alexander Menshikh hit a jumper to write a 44-34 Russia lead.
Georgia bombed from long range and found their desire taking a 51-50 lead right before the third quarter break, as Bokolishvili hit his 21st point.
That was also his last point of the night, and despite Georgia still added three more points to the difference, Russia found their coolness.
With 4:13 to play Georgia hit their last basket to take a 59-60 but from there came a 10-0 run that was more than enough to keep the Russians safe and perfect before the real challenge begins.
