GAME REPORT

Romania A Step Closer To Division A

Romania left themselves with a seven point cushion in their EuroBasket Division B tie with Finland, scoring an 83-76 win in the first of two games between the teams to decide who will ascend to Division A.

The Romanians grabbed the early lead and slowly built on it.

They would need the cushion as they were outscored 22-16 in the final frame.

Romania scored the first nine points of the contest, four of which came from Virgil Stanescu who would finish with 17 points and seven rebounds.

Romania held a 44-37 lead at the break and built on it in the third quarter going up by as many as 17 before the Finns made a run to close the gap, though their efforts would fall short.

George Paul Helcioiu led the way for Romania with 18 points, including a two of four effort from behind the three-point line.

Game two will be played in Finland on 15 September.
