GAME REPORT

Ural Great Beat Rock To Level Quarter-Final

Ural Great hit Tartu Rock with a devasting run midway through the third quarter on Monday to win 68-61 and force a deciding third game in their EuroCup Quarter-Final showdown.

The Russian outfit, looking to bounce back from their 78-75 defeat at Rock, did so in style and will now return to Estonia full of confidence with a spot in the final four at stake.

Trailing 40-38 midway through the third quarter following a dunk by Rock's Brian Cosgrove, the Perm outfit got a three-ball from point guard Andrew Wisniewski and that sparked a 14-0 surge and left them ahead at 52-40 with 1:37 remaining in the period.

A crucial play in that spurt occurred when George Tsintsadze fouled Ural Great's Vanja Plisnic when he was attempting a three-pointer, and Plisnic made all three shots at the stripe for a 49-40 advantage.

Rock managed to close the gap to 52-45 on a basket by Kestutis Sestokas but a Bridnley Wright jumper took the advantage back to 54-45 at the end of the quarter and they held on for a comfortable win.

The Russian team have endured a very difficult eight days with their former coach Drazen Anzulovic quitting the team the day before the opening game at Rock and leaving to coach in Belgium.

Roman Dvinyaninov to the reins on a care-taker basis and nearly engineered a famous win in Estonia, but Ural Great were eventually beaten 78-75.

On Monday, Ural Great scored the game's first nine points, with Wright pouring in his team's opening five with a jump shot and a three-pointer.

But Tartu maintained their poise and fought all the way back to lead 18-17 after a three-ball from Tsintsadze.

With the Perm side riding the hot hand Wright, who led all scorers in the first half with 11 points, they got their noses back in front and held a 32-28 advantage at half-time.

Wright eventually finished with a game-high 18 points and 10 rebounds.
