GAME REPORT

Ural Finish Great At Patras

Ural Great took a huge step towards the EuroCup Qualifying Round with a decisive 80-66 victory at Olympias Patras.

Vanja Plisnic and Brindley Wright tore apart the team in Greece with 23 points apiece.

The hosts dug themselves an early hole when Ural Great stretched a 17-16 lead over the final two and a half minutes of the first quarter to 30-18, with Plisnic burying two of his six three-pointers on the night in that surge.

He would finish six of seven (85.7%) from long range on the night.

The lead ballooned to 40-24 midway through the second quarter but Patras maintained their concentration and gradually pulled themselves back into the contest.

Trailing 44-32 with 3:22 to go in the first half, Nikos Pettas drilled a three-pointer and that started a 9-0 run.

Pettas capped the spurt with two free throws inside the final minute and the Patras faithful looking on from the stands were on their feet.

Andrew Wisniewski closed the half on a good note for Ural Great however, making a three-pointer and the playmaker struck again from long range to start the second half as the Russian team opened up a 50-41 advantage.

Pettas did his best to keep the home side within striking distance, replying with a three-ball of his own to cut the deficit to six.
Drazen Anzulovic's Ural Great this time, though, pressed home their advantage instead of letting it slip.

They went ahead 68-53 when Wright may a lay-up with 7:30 to play.

A Pettas three-point play cut the deficit to 70-63 with 4:02 to play as Patras made a last-ditch attempt to claw back the deficit, but Ural Great finished stronger.

Wright answered immediately with a shot from long range and Plisnic followed with another dagger from behind the arc.

Ural Great will now be huge favourites to advance with the second leg to be played back home in Perm, Russia.
