Dexia Claim Battle Of Neighbours
// 20 November 2007

Dexia Mons-Hainaut beat My Guide Amsterdam 73-63 in Holland to take a big step towards the third elimination round of the EuroCup.

In a bizarre game, the visitors showed they could blow a big lead but still run out impressive winners.

Dexia veteran George Evans scored the first six points of the game as the visitors raced into a 20-4 lead with 3:02 to play in the first quarter, although the lead had been reduced to 25-13 by the end of the period.

Chris Finch's team then went to the changing rooms with the My Guide having stolen the momentum.

That's because the Dutch, much to the delight of their home support, stormed back with 12 unanswered points in the second to lead 37-35 at half-time.

In a tight third period, Dexia held a slender 53-51 advantage, but with Evans and Roger Huggins dominating the boards - they out-rebounded them 40-26 - Finch's team began to put pressure on the home team.

In the final quarter, the visitors scored the first five points to open up a seven-point lead and when Michael Lenzly sunk a three-pointer with 4:44 on the clock to open up an 11-point gap, there was no way back.

Dexia's supremacy from the free-throw line - they made 17 from 20 compared to Amsterdam's 12 from 19 - played a big part in the win.

Great Britain coach Finch owed a lot to his British contingent with Nate Reinking scoring 18 points and Lenzly pouring in 12 points.

Evans was solid as ever, scoring 12 points and pulling down 10 rebounds.

Quotes My Guide Amsterdam vs. Dexia Mons-Hainaut
// 20 November 2007

Chris Finch, coach Dexia:

"Both teams played a good game with a lot of passion. We are glad to come at the top. We know each other very well and that makes it a difficult job for the both of us. We were very good at the offensive end and reboundind and with good percentages from the free-throw line, those were the factors that brought us the win."

Arik Shivek, coach My Guide Amsterdam:

"As Chris mentioned we do know each other quite well. We played against a good team. The free throws and offensive rebound of Mons made a difference. Technically we made some mistakes what cost us the game in the last quarter."
