Latvian Flavour Boost Dynamo Moscow

Dynamo Moscow wasted no time in showing they are serious contenders for the EuroLeague Women title, dominating MiZo Pécs 2010 77-48 - thanks to their duo from the Latvian national team.

EuroBasket Women All-Tournament selection Anete Jekabsone-Zogota collected 28 points, four assists and four steals in the Group D match and Ieva Kublina added 11 points, 12

Dynamo, who won the 2007 EuroCup Women title after reaching the EuroLeague quarter-finals the previous two seasons, were clearly the better side.

The Russians out-rebounded the Hungarians 49-28 and held them to 29% shooting for the game.

And Belarus national team star Sviatlana Volnaya added 10 points and eight rebounds for the winners.

MiZo, who reached the EuroLeague Women semis in 2001, 2004 and 2005, were led by 11 points from Tijana Krivacevic.

The Russians took over right away as Kublina drained a three-pointer to start an 11-0 run in racing ahead 16-5.

Jekabsone-Zogota continued her hot start and scored her 10th point of the first period for a 20-8 lead, which the Hungarians trimmed to 20-13 going into the second frame.

Dynamo picked up in the second quarter right where they left off and Jekabsone-Zogota and Nuria Martinez both hit from down town in a 15-4 spurt for a 35-19 cushion.

Emilija Podrug scored the final four points of the half, sending MiZo into the locker-room down just 41-30.

Dynamo held the Hungarians scoreless for the first 3:30 of the second half but only scored four points themselves for a 15-point lead again.

Kornelia Meszaros knocked down a three-pointer and Graziane Jesús Coelho's jumper
brought MiZo to within 45-37 with 3:30 remaining in the third.

Dubravka Dadic, however, answered with four points and Jekabsone-Zogota six in
scoring the final 10 points of the quarter to lead 55-37 going into the fourth.

Tijana Krivacevic again cut the deficit to 18 points - 57-39 - and Dalma Ivanyi's trey made it 64-44 with 5:21 remaining, but Dynamo were never in danger and held MiZo scoreless for nearly five minutes in tallying the next 11 points to finish the game in dominating fashion.

"Dynamo was stronher than we were in the game for 20 minutes only. We started good but soon lost our concentration. We had our own good plan for the game but Dynamo simply destroyed us. We knew how strong a player like Anete (Jakabsone-Zagota) is and others, but today we couldn't stick to our plans."
