Unbeaten Ros Survive USO Scare
// 19.12.2007

Ros Casares continued their irresistible march into the last 16 of the EuroLeague Women but were pushed hard by USO Mondeville Basket before claiming an 83-78 win.

DeLisha Milton was the driving force behind the win with 20 points and 15 rebounds, ensuring the hosts remain unbeaten at 7-0 atop Group D.

They can relax for their remaining three group games but USO (2-5) still have work to do if they are to progress.

Their dominant position in the standings may suggest the group is proving a walk in the park for the Spaniards, but this was anything but.

The visitors led by as many as 10 points early on before Valencia pulled level at 38-38 midway through the second quarter courtesy of a three-pointer from Katie Douglas (16 points and seven assists).

But they could not shake off their dogged opponents and could not get further than six points away from them.

With less than five minutes remaining, Paoline Salagnac (15 points and six rebounds) pulled the scores level again at 68-68 with a lay-up.

But that was as close as they got to reclaiming the lead as the Spaniards narrowly claimed their seventh victory.

Quotes Ciudad Ros Casares vs. USO Mondeville

Manolo Real, coach Ciudad Ros Casares:

“For us it was very important to confirm our qualification to the eighth-finals play-offs. Now we are going to try to overcome Dynamo Moscow to make absolutely certain of first place in the group. During the last few days we have been training very hard and that was evident in our players’ legs tonight, but we still kept our heads in offense and that helped us to achieve the victory."

Olivier Hirsch, coach USO Mondeville:

"We are a very young team and had a shorter rotation than our usual line-up because of injuries; still we managed to keep close to them and almost store victory."
