Bird On Song For Spartak In Kosice
// 12 December 2007

Spartak Moscow Region went 5-1 in EuroLeague Women Group C with a 84-62 win at Kosit 2013.

Kosit battled well with the defending champions and trailed just 18-16 after the first quarter in front of a record crowd of 7120 fans.

Sue Bird hit a couple of shots from behind the arc early in the second as Spartak raced into a 32-18 lead although Kosit managed to reduce the gap to 42-31 before half-time.

The Russians completely dominated the third quarter and took control of the game as they pulled 67-42 ahead.

Kosit needed something special to avoid defeat and slipping to 2-4 but they could not produce it, despite Luisa Michulkova scoring 16 points.

Tatiana Shchegoleva led the way for Spartak with 19 points and also pulled down five rebounds.

Spartak's superiority from behind the arc was the difference between the teams as they shot nine of 21 three-pointers to the Slovakians three from nine.

Spartak's win means they are all but through to the last 16, while Kosit will need a strong finish to the qualifying round to join them.
