GAME REPORT

Group F: Serbia Continue Domination With Win Over Russia

Unbeaten Serbia showed off their title ambitions by crushing Russia 93-74 in Wednesday's qualifying round at the U20 European Championship for Women.

Russia trailed 57-55 after 27 minutes played but Serbia hit the defending champions with a 21-4 run (78-59) that bridged the third and fourth quarter to break open a close game.

Jovana Rad came up strong for Serbia with a game- high 21 points - she was seven of eight (87.5%) from the floor.

"We are really happy to have won this game," said Rad.

"Russia are a very good team but we came to Sofia with one purpose and that is to win this tournament.

"Right now, we are on the right path."

Serbia went into the second quarter leading 22-19 thanks partly to Miljana Musovic's hot hand.

The Serbians failed to pull away, though, as Russia kept up the pace and trailed 46-37 at the break.

Russia came out of the locker rooms fresh and ready to run and outscored Serbia 18-9 over the next seven minutes to reduce the deficit 57-55.

Serbia were superior shooting the ball on the night, as they were 36 of 63 (57.1%) from the floor while their opponents were 27 of 60 (47%).

Serbia have now won all five games at the U20 European Championship for Women by double-digit margins.
