GAME REPORT

Israel Too Strong For Belgium

Israel stormed to the top of Group C of the EuroBasket Qualifying Division A section with an impressive 85-66 victory over Belgium in Tel Aviv on Wednesday.

A match-winning performance from Yotam Halperin helped the hosts ease past the visitors with the Maccabi Tel Aviv point-guard pouring in 29 points.

The game was already decided after the opening 10 minutes when Israel raced to a 28-17 lead, before another dominant quarter saw them well clear at 47-25.

Halperin was an ever-present threat to the Belgians also adding six rebounds and six assists to his effort.

There were also more than meaningful contributions from Maccabi forward Lior Eliyahu (17 points and eight rebounds) and Bnei Hasharon guard Meir Tapiro (13 points).

For the visitors, Axel Hervelle weighed in with 16 points and 10 rebounds in a losing cause.

The two teams were unbeaten heading into the tie, but the Israelis now head the group, followed by Belgium, Ukraine and Denmark, who visit Tel Aviv on Saturday.
