Fenerbahce Prove Too Strong For Dexia
// Dienstag, 30. Januar 2007

An inspired third-quarter performance helped Fenerbahce SK to a convincing 80-66 victory over Dexia Namur in game one of their EuroLeague Women Eighth-Final play-off in Istanbul.

The Turkish club outscored their opponents 29-19 in the third period to pull clear of the visitors.

Led by Tammy Sutton-Brown (16 points and 10 rebounds), Zafer Kalaycioglu's team dominated the visitors, who were in the contest until the second-half began.

Heading into the game, Fener were clear favourites after ending the group phase of the competition 8-2 to finish first in Group C, while their visitors struggled through round one, ending Group B fifth 3-7.

And at the Caferaga Sports Hall, that difference was clearly evident, especially in the final two periods.

Tied at 36-36 after the first 20 minutes, Dexia fell apart thereafter and despite a stirling performance by Cathrine Kraayeveld (24 points) they
finished well short.

Dexia will now look to pull level with a win in game two on February 2, which would earn them a deciding game.
