Cappie Inspires Fener To Brno Win
// 20 December 2006

Fenerbahce showed that women's basketball is alive and well in Turkey with a stunning 75-56 victory at European giants and defending European champions Gambrinus Sika Brno.

Gambrinus, the most dominating side in Czech basketball, were beaten for the third time in this season's competition.

Gambrinus suffered a major drought in the second half.

After Eva Viteckova's jumper trimmed Fenerbahce's lead to 47-43 with 4:16 to go in the third quarter, Gambrinus were held to just two points by Fener over the next 10 minutes.

The visitors built a 67-45 lead just 4:46 from the end.

Cappie Pondexter scored 11 of her game-high 21 points for Fener during the Gambrinus drought, nine of them coming from the arc.

When the game was over, she had buried five of eight (62.5%) from long range.

Nevriye Yilmaz was also outstanding, scoring 17.

Jan Bobrovsky's Gambrinus had a horrible night shooting the ball, making just 14 of 46 (30.4%) inside the arc and seven of 26 (26.9%) beyond it.

Hana Machova, one of Gambrinus' top players, failed to even score in 22 minutes, missing all four of her shots.

The Turks won for the sixth time in eight games.
