Ros Casares Storm To Summit
// 14 December 2006

Ros Casares went joint-top of EuroLeague Group C with a superb 73-59 home victory against previously in-form Gambrinus Brno.

The victory enabled the Valencia-based side to draw level with their opponents and UMMC Ekaterinburg on 12 points at the summit of the group, with all three sides boasting a record of five and two.

EuroLeague champions Gambrinus had won their previous five matches in Group C, but they were no match for the hosts.

Deanna Nolan gave Gambrinus an ideal start when she opened the scoring after only nine seconds and it looked ominous for Ros when they were 7-0 lead behind after only two-and-a-half minutes.

But seven points from veteran forward Elena Tornikidou inspired a fightback from the Valencia-based side and they stunned their opponents with 18 unanswered points before developing a 23-13 lead at the end of the first period.

The home side never looked back and led 47-38 at half-time, then bossed the third period to extend their advantage to 64-46 going into the final quarter.

And although they only registered nine points in the final 10 minutes, the victory was never in doubt.
