Dexia Into Next Phase

17.01.2007

Dexia Namur made sure of their passage into the next round of EuroLeague Women with a 68-54 victory over ZVVZ USK Prague in the battle of Group B's bottom teams.

Needing a win to stay ahead of their opponentsin the standings, Dexia made sure it was never a contest, racing into a big lead.

Oksana Agabalova's lay-up with 1:25 left in the first quarter made it 20-7 to the hosts.

Any attempt by USK Prague to close the gap simply seemed to provoke Dexia, and the gap was 39-24 as the teams headed for the dressing rooms at halftime.

The cushion grew to 30 points when Nele Deyaert made a lay-up with 2:47 left in the third quarter, and from there, Dexia began to ease off with the result already beyond doubt.

That allowed USK Prague to recover at least a little, and they ended the game on a 17-6 run which made the final scoreline more respectable.

Krystyna Szymanska-Lara and Cathrine Kraayeveld had 17 points each for Dexia, with the latter also collecting eight rebounds.

Dexia were a perfect 15-of-15 from the free-throw line on a night where most things went right.

Sviatlana Volnaya led USK Prague with 14 points while Michaela Pavlickova added 14 and seven rebounds.
