Spartak Ease Past Familia

Spartak Moscow Region survived a close first quarter before running away with their EuroLeague Women clash against Famila Basket on Wednesday night.

The Russians were just four points ahead against the winless Italians after 10 minutes but cruised thereafter to clinch an 85-46 victory.

The half-time score read 42-27 to the hosts and the second half was one-way traffic with the Russians winning the two periods 23-12 and 20 7.

Spartak welcomed new signing Sue Bird into the fold for her first EuroLeague Women game. She finished with seven points and two assists in 16 minutes of playing time.

Agnieszka Bibrzycka led Spartak with 18 points while Taj McWilliams added a double double of 12 points and 12 rebounds.

The win means Spartak have a 7-1 record and are virtually certain of playing in the next phase.

The situation is less clear for Famila, who, despite their woeful record, can still go through if they can win one of their two remaining games.
