MMT Estudiantes killed off Liege Basket 93-81 with a big effort in the final period to improve to 3-0 in EuroCup Group I.
A run of 14-2 for Estu including eight consecutive points early in the fourth quarter headed off a threatened comeback from the Belgians who had trailed 67-61 at the end of the third.
Ronald Ellis opened up the fourth quarter with a basket for Liege to reduce arrears to 67-63 but three-pointers from Hernan Jasen and Marlon Garnett saw Estu make that 73-63 with Caio Silveira Torres then adding a jump shot.
Stephane Pelle pulled back two points for Liege but another effort from behind the arc, this time from Sergio Sanchez Cardenas made it 78-65 with Willie McDonald adding one of his two free throws. McDonald then added a jump shot and the game was effectively over.
Estu had led 48-38 at the halfway point and, although Liege did their best they could not quite get on terms with thier Spanish opponents.
Estu scored the first basket of the game but then Liege roared into a 10 5 lead.
Jasen's jump shot with a minute to go in the first quarter had brought them level at 18-18 at the end of the first and once Garnett had drained the first bucket of the second period to give the Madrilenos the lead, they always looked the likely winners.
McDonald had 17 points for Estu with Jasen's double double of 16 points and 10 boards an even more crucial effort. Garnett managed 13 points and Iker Iturbe 15 for the winners.
Karim Souchu poured in 29 for Liege with Roger Huggins (14), Pelle (13) and Ellis (13) also making double digits.
