Adecco ASVEL got their EuroCup challenge off to a flying start with a hard fought 89-70 victory over DTL EKA AEL Lemesos in Group H.

The Cypriot visitors got off to a good opening and took an early advantage in the game, but a three-pointer from Yohann David Sangare and a seven-point haul from Amara Sy ensured that Adecco ended the first quarter with a slender 18-17 advantage.

Zydrunas Urbonas drew Lemesos level with three minutes to go in the second quarter, but quickfire three-point efforts from Laurent Foirest and Sy extended the home side's advantage before the never-say-die attitude of the Cypriots saw them pull level 38-38 before half time.

Into the third quarter, Sy netted another three-pointer, while accuracy from the free throw line from Nouha Diakite, Sy and Foirest saw the French side open up an advantage that they would hold until the end.

Chevon Troutman with 23 points and 12 rebounds starred for Adecco, while Sy weighed in with 21 points.

“We are satisfied with the difference we made in the second half after a bad start," said ASVEL coach Yves Baratet.

"We didn't know much about this team," said ASVEL's Vincent Masingue, who added 11 points on 5-of-5 shooting from the field.

"We don’t have excuses for the first half of the game which was not good enough. We were not very concentrated, however in the second half of the game, we decided to react and we adjusted our defense.”

But it was accuracy with three-pointers that ultimately proved the difference between the two sides, Adecco pouring in 50% of their efforts, while Lemesos could only net with 20%.

Jeron Roberts finished as the Cypriots' star man, netting 18 points.
