A game-high 28 points from DTL EKA AEL's Zydrunas Urbonas was not enough to prevent Virtus Bologna from winning 96-75 to pip the Cypriots to top spot in EuroCup Group H.
Virtus, joint top of Italy's Lega A, built their success in an otherwise close contest in the second quarter which they took 24-9 after the first period had ended level at 24-24.
Guilherme Giovannoni's two free throws and three-pointer jump shot early in period two propelled the Italians ahead and it was Ntousan Tsalikis-Vouktsevits who then followed suit with another three-pointer to extend the lead.
A layup from Kristoffer Lang and a dunk Tsalik-Vouktsevits made it a 12-point unanswered scoring spree for Virtus and from that moment on they were well in command.
It ensured that the Italian side finished top with a 5/1 record although they are joined in the next phase by runners-up DTL whose 4/2 result was good enough to see them progress to the last 16.
Tsalikis-Vouktsevits finished with 19 points for the victors and was perfect inside the arc (five from five) and the charity stripe (three from three) although he was less accurate from downtown, converting two of his five shots.
He received staunch support from Travis Best and Giovannoni who both poured in 16 points with Brazilian Giovannoni also grabbing eight rebounds.
Urbonas may have finished on the losing side but his shooting figures were good with five from five inside the paint and 12 from 14 from the free throw line.
He drained two out of four attempts from outside the arc and there were two more double digit contributions for the Cypriots with Jeron Roberts accumulating 15 points while Milutin Aleksic added 10 to his team's total.
