Iscar Storm Back To Record Dramatic Win

16.11.2006

Ironi Iscar Nahariya staged a stunning second-half revival to record a 98-71 win against CSU Asesoft Ploiesti in a remarkable EuroCup clash.

Asesoft seemed to be cruising to their first victory in Group A when Dumitru Virgil Carutasu's lay-up put the visiting side 43-27 up with just over two minutes remaining in the second period.

That lead was trimmed slightly in the run-up to the break, but Asesoft still went to the locker rooms apparently in total control at 46-37.

But whatever was said by home coach Ariel Beit Halamy during the interval could not have worked better, as Iscar scored the first 19 points of the third period to turn the game on its head and take a 56-46 lead.

With the momentum now well and truly behind the Israelis, Halamy's side completely bossed the final two periods, winning them by a combined 61-25 to claim a massive victory over their shellshocked opponents.

That was Iscar's first win of the group stage and they join JDA Dijon Basket on 1-1 records, a game behind leaders Estudiantes.

The defeat will be a major blow to morale for winless Asesoft, who led 27-11 after the opening period and totally dominated for almost the entire first half.

Iscar had four players score in double-figures, with Juan Mendez pacing his side with 23 points and six rebounds, while John Gilchrist added 21 points, six rebounds, three assists and three steals.

For Romanian outfit Asesoft, Sasa Ocokoljic poured in 21 points, including four of his side's seven successful three-point attempts.
