Latvia gave themselves a chance of qualifying for EuroBasket 2007 with a 78-66 win over Denmark in their final game of the campaign.
First place in the group was always out of the question with Croatia dominating proceedings. But Latvia's win leaves them with second place and a 4-2 record, which may still be enough to qualify as one of the two best second placed teams.
Kaspars Cipruss was the man of the hour for Latvia and his 28 points and 9 rebounds were the key performance in his side's win.
Adjusting to life in Division A has been tough for Denmark and they have recorded just one win, against Estonia, in six games.
Against Latvia, veterans of the past three EuroBaskets, Denmark managed to keep up with the home side in the first quarter, but fell behind in the second, 39-28 at the half.
Latvia stayed ahead in the third period, but Denmark slowly began to creep back into contention.
The Danes opened the final quarter with a 6-2 run to cut the score to just three points, 56-53. However, the run als coincided with a fifth foul for Danish forward Christian Drejer, who scored 18 points in just 24 minutes.
Three points was as close as it would get for Denmark and Latvia held off the Danes to record a fourth win in their qualifying campaign.
