GAME REPORT

Stack Helps Macedonia Hold Off Israel

Ryan Stack scored 24 points and grabbed 10 rebounds as hosts FYROM defeated Israel 90-87 in Group B action.

FYROM got off to a super start and Israel never could rebound despite a valiant comeback effort in the fourth quarter and a 30-point performance from Jamie Arnold.

Stack punctuated his strong second half by connecting on a critical three-point play in the final minute of play.

Yotam Halperin made a pair of free throws with 1:22 remaining to get Israel to within two points (83-81) after they had been trailing by double-digits throughout most of the game.

Stack then made a jumper and was fouled on the play. He converted the free throw with 51 seconds to go and after Israel turned the ball over, Macedonia all but wrapped up the win when GjorgjiTasovski made a jumper with 12 seconds left to put his side up 88-83.

Dror Hagag made one of two free throws for Israel and Tasovski then made two and Macedonia had an insurmountable 90-84 lead with eight seconds left.

Macedonia put themselves in position to win with their strong first quarter.

Jordanco Davitkov’s side went on a 12-2 run in the first quarter to turn a 6-all tie into an 18-8 advantage.

Vrbica Stefanov started the run with a jumper and scored four more points during the spurt.

Israel got back to within 18-12, but Macedonia scored the final seven points of the quarter and led 25-12.

The two teams played evenly in the second quarter and FYROM took a 46-36 lead into halftime.

Stack got hot in the third quarter and scored 12 points. His three-pointer just inside the two-minute mark of the third put FYROM in front 64-48.

Israel narrowed the margin to nine going into the fourth and then turned their offense into high gear during the final stanza.

A three-pointer from Matan Naor at the 3:42 mark got Israel to within six, 79-73.

After Stack was called for traveling, Yaniv Green made a jumper and the Israelis were within four, 79-75, at the 3:42 mark.

Stack and Arnold exchanged points and a Dime Tasovski jumper cushioned Macedonia’s to six, 83-77, at the 2:27 mark.

Israel then got to within four before Stack delivered the final blow to Zvi Sherf’s men with three-point play.

Both teams now have a 1-1 record.

On Wednesday, FYROM go up against undefeated Portugal, while Israel take on winless Bosnia and Herzegovina.
