GAME REPORTBosnia-Herzegovina gave Great Britain's women a basketball lesson in the first half and rolled to a decisive 82-51 EuroBasket Division B triumph in Sarajevo.
With both sides having won their opening two Group B games, the contest beforehand had the look of a thriller but soon after tip-off, the hosts stamped their authority on proceedings.
Kelli McHugh split two at the free throw line to leave the Britons trailed 9-7 four minutes into the game but the rest of the quarter belonged to the hosts who reeled off 13 consecutive points for a commanding 22-7 lead.
Kristy Ellen Lavin's three-point play reduced Britain's deficit to 29-17 with 4:27 to play in the half, but Bosnia-Herzegovina scored the last eight points of the quarter, the last four by Raziya Mujanovic, to extend the advantage to 38-17.
The final 20 minutes was an exercise in damage limitation for Mark Clark's team.
Azra Hadzimustafic and Dragana Svitlica each scored 15 points for Bosnia-Herzegovina, who shot 56.5% (26 of 46) inside the arc in a dominating display.
The home team out-rebounded Britain 41-26, with Svitlica pulling down 10 of those boards.
All is not lost for Britain, who are hoping to win promotion to EuroBasket Division A.
The top two sides from each Division B group advance to the play-offs after the second legs are completed next year, with the winners of the two play-off games climbing into Division A.
Britain were led by Rosalee Mason's 12 points. |
