GAME REPORT

Serbia & Montenegro Stay Unbeaten

Serbia & Montenegro is the only team to remain unbeaten at the Umcor U18 European Championship Women following victory over Sweden on Wednesday.

Both sides had complied 4-0 records going into the game, but Serbia & Montenegro proved too strong for their Swedish counterparts, winning easily 75-51.

Sweden went into the game without leading scorer Frida Eldebrink who was diagnosed with a fever on Tuesday.

The lack of scoring was a concern for coach Mikael Johansson, but a bigger factor was his side's defense.

Sweden's defense has been a major factor in the team's success and a principle aim in each game is to hold their opponents to under 60 points.

That task seemed out of reach as early as the opening seven minutes when Serbia & Montenegro racked up 21 points.

Sweden closed to 23-16 by the end of the first quarter, but Serbia & Montenegro came out even stronger in the second period.

They outscored Sweden 14-2 in a seven minute burst to open up a 39-18 gap.

Sweden cut the deficit to 14 points at halftime, 44-30, but Serbia & Montenegro outscored Sweden 17-10 in the third to put the game out of reach.

Forward Sonja Petrovic put together another fanstastic all-round game, tallying 19 points, 7 rebounds, 5 assists and 2 steals.

Serbia & Montnegro take on Lithuania on Thursday and a win will guarantee them a place in Saturday's semi-final.

Sweden are hoping that Eldebrink will be back for their next match against Bulgaria, a game they will need to win if they are to make the semi-finals.
