Lithuania kept their hopes of reaching the semi-finals alive at the Umcor European Championship U18 Women in Tenerife on Wednesday with an 83-60 win against Bulgaria.
After an anaemic shooting display against Sweden on Tuesday (20% from the field), the Lithuanians rediscovered their touch against Bulgaria, netting 50% from two-point range and 81% from the free throw line.
Center Gintare Petronyte top scored with 22 points on 11/13 shooting and also grabbed 14 rebounds.
It took Lithuania a while to really get going, but they produced a red hot second quarter. With 6:27 to play, the score was 18-16, but Lithuanian shot 7/10 from the field in the final 6 minutes to take a 40-21 lead into the half.
It was Petronyte's turn to take over in the third quarter. She scored 14 points of her team's 23 points and Lithuania led 63-39 after 30 minutes.
"Today and yesterday we played quite good defense. Our offense yesterday was awful, only five 2-point shots the whole game and today the team played much better on offense which was why we won," said Lithuania Head Coach Algirdas Budenas.
Lithuania will need to beat Serbia & Montenegro on Thursday in order to make the semi-finals.
