GAME REPORT

Sweden Through To Last Four

Sweden produced a strong showing on the final day of quarter-final round play at the U16 European Championship Women Division B to secure a semi-final berth.

The Swedes defeated Germany 62-48 and will take on Italy in Saturday's semi-final.

Sweden never actually trailed at any point in the match, but it was not until the third quarter that they were able to shake off a persistent Germany.

The Germans were always within striking distance but suffered a third quarter meltdown which allowed Sweden to establish a double-digit lead. Germany shot 3/16 in the period for just 6 points and found themselves 15 points down, 45-30, going into the fourth quarter.

While Germany struggled offensively, Sweden were red hot in a 12-2 run over the last six minutes of the period.

Stefanie Yderström started off things with a three-pointer, and it was her long range shot in the final seconds which put a cap on a fine passage of play from the Swedes.

Germany were unable to make any significant inroads into the deficit in the final 10 minutes, allowing Sweden to celebrate a well deserved victory.

Danielle Carter led Sweden wtih 15 points, while Yderström and Cleopatra Forsman Goga chipped in 14 apiece.
