An electric performance by Teymuraz Babunashvili helped guide Russia into the final of the Termosteps U16 European Championship at the expense of Serbia & Montenegro on Saturday.

The 1.86m guard scored 20 points, had five assists and pulled down four boards as his team won 82-74 in the first semi-final in Spain.

Andrey Semenov played an important role in Russia's win.
Russia were leading by just one point (73-72) with 1.59 left to play but they pulled away through a jump shot and then a lay-up by Babunashvili to make it 77-72 with 34 seconds remaining.

He was able to add three more points before the final buzzer, giving him a team-high haul and making him the joint leading scorer in the game with Serbo-Montenegrin duo Dejan Musli and Bojan Subotic.

Musli was in inspired form, adding 14 rebounds to his 20-point contribution but his team could not benefit.

Babunashvili had help from centre Andrey Semenov, who added 14 points and five rebounds to Russia's cause.

Serbia & Montenegro were ahead 44-42 at half-time but a strong third quarter by the Russians saw them take a 62-58 lead into the final period and they never looked back thanks to the play of Babunashvili.
