Brunson Impressive As Dexia Claim Important Win
// 18 January 2006

Dexia Namur charged into the eighth-finals of the EuroLeague Women with a dramatic 74-68 home victory over USO Mondeville Basket.

Needing to finish in the top five to clinch a place in the next phase, the win - the Belgian team's second on the season - allowed them to go above USK Praha.

Praha suffered an agonising 66-64 home defeat to MiZo Pecs and ended their Group A campaign with a 1-9 mark.

In the game at Dexia, the hosts took a 21-16 lead by the end of the first quarter but Mondeville outscored the them 19-10 over the next 10 minutes to lead 35-31 at half-time.

A 12-0 spurt near the end of the third quarter put Dexia in the ascendancy.

Rebekkah Brunson's jump shot with 1:30 left in the period sparked the run, which carried over into the fourth quarter and left the home side with a 53-47 advantage.

Mondeville did not quit.

Emilija Podrug's basket with 7:18 to play gave them a 55-53 lead, but a three-pointer from Elzbieta Miedzik, and a shot inside the arc from the same player, put the Belgians back in front for good at 58-55.

Dexia had to fight until the end, but they did just enough to hold on.

Brunson had 22 points and 15 rebounds in the victory for Dexia.

USO Mondeville conclude their qualifying campaign fourth in Group A with a 4-6 mark.
