GAME REPORT

Dexia On The Brink

Dexia Mons-Hainaut caught fire on offence in the fourth quarter and destroyed Slask Wroclaw 90-66 to finish Tuesday evening top of Group K in the EuroCup with two weeks left in Round II.

The visitors from Belgian have been one of the most consistent teams this season in Europe and they flattened Slask over the final 10 minutes, outscoring them 30-7 and clinching a hefty 90-66 win.

No-one would have predicted that scoreline at half-time when Slask led 40-38.

Dexia went on a 10-2 at the start of the third quarter, but the Polish team battled back and twice led by four before James Potter's three-pointer - one of his six made on the night - gave the visitors a 60-59 lead heading to the fourth.

The wheels came off for Slask in the fourth when the Belgians scored their 30 points, with Dragan Markovic scoring 10 of his 12 points in a 21-2 run that sealed it for Dexia.

Potter, who was six of nine from three-point range, led the scoring for the winners with 21 points, while George Evans claimed 13 points and 10 rebounds.

Matthias Desaever (14 points) also got into double figures for Dexia, while the best all-round performance came from American point guard Omar Cook who finished two points and two rebounds short of a triple-double. Cook finished with eight points, eight rebounds and 11 assists.

American center Kevin Fletcher had 14 points and five rebounds in a losing cause for Slask, who are now 1-3.

Dexia have three wins and one defeat with a home game against BC Zadar next on the agenda. They wrap up their Round II campaign at Lokomotiv Rostov.

Zadar lost at home on Tuesday against Rostov to leave both of those sides with 2-2 records.

Slask are not eliminated yet with a 1-3 mark, with their lone victory coming against Rostov - their opponents next week. Progression to the quarter-finals does look unlikely for the Polish team.
