Kyiv Clean Glass Against Barons

15.11.2005

BC Kyiv all but assured themselves of a place in the second round of the EuroCup with a road win against BC Barons from Latvia on Tuesday night.

The 2005 FIBA Europe League runners-up rode their dominance on the boards to an 84-90 win.

Just as in the first game between the two sides (a 99-72 win for Kyiv), the Ukrainians destroyed their opponents under the glass.

Kyiv outrebounded Barons 52-24 and grabbed a whopping 21 offensive boards.

Like most Latvian teams, what the Barons lacked in size and toughness, they made up for in long range shooting.

They shot 47% from the field, including 10 of 19 from three-point range and their scoring kept them in contention.

However, Kyiv's power proved decisive and they held off the home side down the stretch to record their third win of the EuroCup.

Goran Nikolic led Kyiv with 16 points, Ratko Varda had 14 and 8 rebounds and Dragan Lukovski added 12 and 6 assists.

Giedrius Gustas topped Barons with 24 points and 5 assists.
