Dutch side MPC Capitals put on a brave showing on the road in their EuroCup Group F opener, but ultimately fell short against home side Slask Wroclaw.

After a neck-and-neck opening half in which both sides claimed small, but insignificant leads, it was the Capitals who looked to be in pole position with time winding down.

A Daniel Novak lay-up sparked a 7-0 run for the Dutch outfit and they led 40-47 with 6 minutes to play in the third.

Wroclaw closed to within three points at the end of the third quarter, but a jump shot from Darren Brooks and three-pointer from Dutch national team player Kees Akerboom saw the Capitals' lead back to seven, 53-61.

But just as Wroclaw seemed to be on the ropes, they produced a devestating blow.

The Polish side produced a 17-2 run over the next 5 minutes which saw the game's momentum swing 100% in their favour.

Slask netted eight consecutive field goal attempts, while the Capitals went 0-6, giving the home team a commanding 72-63 advantage with just over three minutes remaining.

It proved enough for victory as the Capitals were unable to recover from the offensive onslaught.

Slask shot a scintillating 75% from two-point range with US center Kevin Fletcher leading the way (9/9 from the field) with 22 points and 11 rebounds.

Despite the win, Slask coach Tomasz Jankowski was not happy with his team's performance.

"I am not satisfied with our play. Our the oldest players were more committed than younger players. It was weak day and a weak game. It was not enough determination in our team," he said.
