Italian international Gianmarco Pozzecco collected 17 points and six assists as BC Khimki held off Allianz Basket Swans 80-67 on Tuesday for their second straight victory in Group D of the EuroCup.
Khimki had three other players in double figures scoring despite playing without Venezuela veteran Oscar Torres.
The Russians, who reached the FIBA Europe League Final Four last season, pulled out to a 20-5 lead before Swans closed to 24-12 after one period.
Khimki's three-point shooting allowed them to pull ahead in the second frame, as Pozzecco hit three from behind the arch during a 14-0 run to extend the lead to 41-14 halfway through the quarter.
The Austrians, who are making their debut in European competition, missed their first seven three-pointers before Matthias Mayer finally hit two back-to-back threes and added a layup as Swans kept pace and went into the locker-room down 51-25.
The Italian international Pozzecco had a team-high 11 in the first half.
The Austrians woke up after the break with the help of their home fans.
Khimki coach Sergei Elevic called a time-out with 6:22 left in the third after Deteri Mayes scored to pull the game to within 56-37.
The Austrians continued their storm back as leading outside threat Gary Buchanan finally got on the board with a three-pointer to make it 59-46.
Khimki was clinging to a 61-48 lead after three quarters. Melvin Booker's two free throws extended the lead back to 15 points - 63-48 - but Swans got two offensive rebounds and Florian Schoeninger's put-back made it 63-55 with less than seven minutes to go.
After a time-out, Pozzecco sparked a 6-2 run with two jump shots and a steal and assist to Alexandr Petrenko, pushing the lead back to 12 points - at 69-57 - with 5:18 remaining.
The Austrians would get no closer than nine points the rest of the way.
Russian guard Vitali Fridzon scored 14 points for Khimki, who made 9-20 three-pointers. Boris Gorenc chipped in with 11 points, and Booker finished with 10 for the Russians.
Peter Huetter led Swans with 12 points, while Zac Bennett registered a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds.
Angelo Flanders and Mayes also had 11 points and Mayer finished with 10.
Buchanan scored just eight points, struggling from beyond the arc (2-8 on threes).
As a team, Swans hit just seven of 22 three-point attempts. Khimki next travel to Israeli side Nahariya on November 8, while Swans look for their first European victory at Czech side CEZ Nymburk a day later.
