Khimki Throttle Swans In
Third Quarter

BC Khimki virtually assured themselves of a place in the EuroCup Round II with a 102-80 demolition of Basket Swans Gmunden.

The Moscow Region team won for the fourth time in five games, and they will wrap up their campaign at home to Ironi Iscar Nahariya.

Should Khimki lose, and Nymburk win their remaining game against Basket Swans Gmunden, then Khimki, Nahariya and Nymburk would have 4-2 records.

The team with the inferior goal average would not advance.

Khimki are almost certain to advance as they have a superior goal average compared to the other teams.

If they beat Nahariya, Khimki definitely advance.

Khimki, who are undefeated in Russia's Superleague, were led on Tuesday by Boris Gorenc's 17 points while Deteri Mayes top-scored in the game with 23 points.

Khimki took a 26-16 lead by the end of the first quarter, but the visitors from Austria hit back and closed to 42-41 at half-time.

The Russians took control again in the third quarter when they outscored their visitors 33-17 and they cruised to the victory.
