GAME REPORT

Hanavan Triple Double Leads Leuven Home

Belgian side Passe-Partout Basket Groot Leuven picked up their first EuroCup victory of the season on Tuesday with an 81-74 home win against BC Zadar.

Leuven were without US center Tremmel Darden who was unavailable with a foot injury, but forward Ian Hanavan picked up the slack, turning in a tremendous performance to guide his team to the win.

A strong start by the home team gave them a narrow advantage after 10 minutes, 24-16. But Zadar were never out of contention and by halftime reduced the gap to just two points, 41-39.

However, Zadar suffered a blow at the end of the third quarter when FYROM center Todor Gecevski was called for an unsportsmanlike foul and then a technical, ending his game for the evening.

Zadar's woes were compounded early in the fourth when centers Jure Lalic and Frano Colak both picked up their fifth fouls.

While Zadar struggled, Leuven found their rhythm, playing some of their best basketball of the night. They stretched the lead to 74-68 with time winding down, and although a Jakov Vladovic three gave Zadar some hope at 74-71, the impressive Hanavan took over at the end to give his side a well earned win.

Hanavan finished the game with 26 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists, the first triple double of the 2005/2006 season.

Vladovic paced Zadar with 20 points.
