Cholet Keep Hope Alive

15.11.2005

Cholet kept their slim hopes alive of advancing from Group A in the EuroCup with a 79-70 win over Romania's CSU Asesoft Ploiesti.

The triumph was their first in four games, and it avenged their defeat to Ploiesti in the first week of the competition.

Trailing 27-17 early in the second quarter, the French gave their home fans a thrill by reeling off 11 straight points to move ahead 28-27.

The second big spurt of the first half for Cholet came right at the end of the second quarter.

Asesoft were in front at 35-34 but then let their hosts close out the half on a 9-0 run with Olivier Bardet's three-pointer sending them to the changing rooms with a 43-35 lead.

Cholet's advantage ballooned to 21 points late in the third quarter on a Lamayne Wilson jump shot and the home team cruised, although Asesoft did close the gap to seven with 1:39 to play.

A pair of Wilson free throws finished off the scoring.

The Romanians were determined, reflected in their 42-35 rebounding advantage, but they were not good enough in other departments.

One of those was free throw shooting, with Asesoft just 11 of 22 for the game.

Wilson had a game-high 34 points and eight rebounds for Cholet.

Sasa Ocokoljic had 21 points in a losing cause for Ploiesti.
