Dynamo Moscow 95 Sporting Athens 28
// 05 January 2005

Dynamo Moscow were at near full strength for the first time this season in the EuroLeague Women and the result was an impressive demolition of Greek champions Sporting Athens in Moscow.

Sue Bird
Although without the injured Elena's (Shakirova and Baranova) Dynamo finally welcomed Sue Bird, who joins the Moscow side after winning a WNBA title and Olympic gold medal in 2004. She contributed 5 points, 3 assists and 2 steals in 20 minutes of court time in a game which was 100% controlled by the home side.

"It's hard to say whether our team played well or not judging by this match, Sporting had definite problems with the bench and the long trip to Russia also played its role," said Dynamo coach Semen Khaliphsky.

Defense was the key to the game. Dynamo held Athens to 11/48 shooting, including a miserable 2/21 from three-point range.

Dynamo led 23-9 after the first period and the game was no longer a contest. They didn't let up for the remaining 30 minutes and the result was a 67 point victory.

Mwadi Mabika and Elena Karpova topped scored for Dynamo with 14 points apiece.

Quotes Dynamo Moscow - Sporting Athens
// 05 January 2005

Semen Khaliphsky, Dynamo Head Coach :

"We gave a chance for everyone to play in this game and there is no use to point out the best player of the match. I should also mention that we still have two key players in our team who are seriously injured, Baranova and Shakirova. And it is still a very big question whether they will play in Hungary or not."

Panayotis Arvanidis, Sporting Athens Head Coach:

"We had really big problems playing against Dynamo Moscow. We have two players injured, one of whom is a player of the National Greek team. Besides we do not have such a depth with the substitute players."

We didn’t bring our American players for this match, probably we will have to change them for other players."
