Hungarian side Sopron slipped to a third consecutive EuroLeague Women loss in Poland this evening, losing to home side TS Wisla Can-Pack.
A fourth quarter rally from Wisla saw them overcome a break open an otherwise close contest and keep their play-off hopes alive.
For 30 minutes both teams played each other to a standstill and the score was 52-51 in favour of Wisla going into the final quarter.
Wisla hit their opening four shots of the fourth period, prompting Sopron to take a timeout. But the break did not help the visitors, as Wisla continued to make their shots and open up a 7-point advantage 68-57 with 2:36 remaining.
The margin proved enough for the win and Wisla held on for their fourth EuroLeague Women victory this season.
The outstanding player for Wisla was center Maryna Kress. She exploded for a season high 23 points (including 7 in the last quarter) and 9 rebounds.
Natalia Hejkova - MKB Euroleasing Sopron coach:
""We did not play the game in the way we wanted. The cold weather meant that the temperature in the gym was also a little low.
Today was only the second time that I have received a technical foul in my coaching career."
Wojciech Downar-Zapolski - Wisla Can-Pack Krakow coach:
"I am happy that at last my team won. This victory makes my team closer to the next round of the FIBA EuroLeague Women 2005. The style of defense game of my team during last period was perfect."
