TS Wisla Can-Pack 56 vs. Gambrinus JME 63
// 06.01.2005

After 2 road losses to fellow Group A sides Lietuvos Telekomas and Kozachka-Zalk Zaporozhye, TS Wisla Can-Pack Krakow returned home looking for victory in the EuroLeague Women. Unfortunately for the team and the 1,000 fans in attendance, Krakow could not reverse their losing streak against visiting side Gambrinus Brno.

The game proved to be an exciting one and was controlled for the most part from Krakow. But a Krakow shooting drought at the start of the fourth quarter saw Brno go on a 10-0 run and take the initiative, and the victory, into their own hands.

US forward/center Tangela Smith scored 14 points for Krakow in the opening 3 quarters, helping the home team keep Brno at bay. But 2 free throws from Alicia Poto saw Brno tie the game at 45-45 going into the final period.

A jump shot from Poto at the start of the 4th sparked Brno's run. Krakow missed seven straight shots (including three by Smith), before Shannon Johnson finally got them on the board. By that time, Krakow trailed by 10 and Brno were in full control.

There was a glimmer of hope for Krakow when Johnson brought them to within 3 points with just ten seconds to go. But Poto nailed free throws number 4 and 5 to guide Brno to victory.

Poto finished with 11 points and 5 rebounds for Brno, while Taj McWilliams had 19 points and 10 boards.

Quotes TS Wisla Can-Pack vs. Gambrinus JME
// 06.01.2005

Jan Bobrovsky, Head Coach Gambrinus JME Brno:

My team did not play a good game, probably because of the Christmas break.

Wojciech Downar-Zapolski, Head Coach Wisla Can-Pack:

My team played a very good game during the first three quarters. Gambrinus JME is a very experienced team, a participant in the Final Four during the few last years. A better defensive game from Brno in the last quarter, and too many turnovers from my team, decided the result
