Gambrinus JME 80 vs. Lietuvos Telekomas 56
// 08 December 2004

Gambrinus Brno put an end to Lietuvos Telekomas' winning run this evening with a comfortable 80-56 home win.

The victory puts Brno on top of Group A and pushes Vilnius into 2nd place.

The home team had problems with defence and shooting in the first seven minutes though and after five minutes of play Vilnius was ahed 9-3.

A couple of three-pointers from Vecerova and Machova, however, and Brno tied the score. At this point Brno coach Jan Bobrovsky decided to go with a risk and put in Australian player Alicia Poto.

Poto is still suffering a broken nose picked up in the last game in St. Petersburg. She tried to play in practice with special mask, but felt very uncomfortable.

"I didn´t want to risk further injury in the beginning of the game. But our team without Poto was playing very nervously. When she came on the field, our performance got better," said coach Bobrovsky after the game.

After the first quater was the score 21-16 and in the second period the Brno players decided the final result. The locals controlled the game, their defence was perfect and they played wonderful offense.

Brno won the second quarter 25-8 with Poto excellent in shooting and in combination play too.  American Taj McWilliams-Franklin was great inside, grabbing 10 rebounds and between them the two foreigners dominated for Brno.

In the second half Vilnius tried to play more aggressively in defense and Brno made a lot of turnovers. Vilnius was able make only a slight dent in the margin, narrowing the score to only 13 points. In last quarter Hana Machova stepped up and together with Zuzana Zirkova played an excellent game to secore Brno the win.

// 08 December 2004

Jan Bobrovsky, Head Coach, Brno:

"We started very nervous. But after seven minutes was our defence better and in the second quarter we decided our victory. I´m satisfied with our team but we made a some stupid mistakes. But Vilnius didn´t turn over the result.

Algirdas Paulauskas, Head Coach, Lietuvos Vilnius:

"We played good for only five minutes. Brno played tougher defence in the second quater and we had a hard time dealing with it. We suffered from bad shooting tonight. That decided our first loss in theis year's EuroLeague."
