MKB Euroleasing Sopron 114 vs. Baltiskaya Zwezda 57
// 03 November 2004

2004 FIBA Europe Cup Women victors Baltiskaya Zwezda were given a baptism of fire in tonight's EuroLeague Women opener in Sopron. Baltiskaya were literally wiped off the floor by Sopron and suffered a 57-point defeat.

The basis for Sopron's huge margin of victory was defense. Young center Ivana Matovic (Serbia & Montenegro) set the tone and her inside defense suffocated Baltiskaya's low post game.

Offensively, Matovic, Anna Vajda and Gordana Kovacevic combined for 76 points and Baltiskaya simply had no answers.

The Russian side tried everything to get back into the game, but this was Sopron's night.

By halftime, the result was clear. The only question was whether Sopron would break the 100-point barrier. They did in the 36th minute and completed the game to a standing ovation from the 2,300 fans in attendance.
