After a tough loss against Strasbourg last week, Anwil Wloclawek played host to Belgian team Dexia Mons-Hainaut in their first home game of the FIBA Europe League.
The game attracted 3,000 spectators and they saw their side overcome a determined Mons-Hainaut. Indeed, it was the visitors who gained the early advantage. George Evans had a dominant first half and his scoring, rebounding and passing sparked his side to a 40-34 advantage at the half.
In the second half Anwil began to step up their defense, and only allowed Dexia to score 14 points in the third quarter. With the offensive help of Swanson again, the home team was able to draw even with Dexia.
The last ten minutes of the game proved to be exciting as both teams struggled defensively. In the last five minutes Rinalds Sirsnins picked up his game, and helped to put Anwil on top for good. Despite two 3-pointers by Potter, Anwil went on to win its first game in the FIBA Europe League. |
