Fersped Rabotnicki squandered the chance of almost certain victory in tonight's match-up against FIBA Europe League champions Unics Kazan. The home team led by 5 points in the last minute of regular time, but a series of errors and missed free throws allowed Kazan to come back from the dead and send the contest into overtime.
The loss was all the more galling for the home team fans as Rabotnicki had come back from an 18-point deficit to put themselves in a winning position at the end of the game.
Kazan built their double-digit advantage in the first quarter, but some red-hot 3-point shooting from Kendrick Johnson (5/14), Toni Simik (5/6) and Goran Samardziev (6/10) saw Rabotnicki roar back into contention.
But the blow of Kazan's final minute comeback and the loss of Simik and Samardziev to foul trouble was too much for Rabotnicki to overcome.
Kazan took control in the extra period, outscoring Rabotnicki 12-8 and securing their third FIBA Europe League win this season.
Kaspars Kambala tallied 28 points for Kazan while teammate Alexander Miloserdov added 23.
Johnson finished with 30 points and 6 assists for Rabotnicki.
