Czech champions Nymburk kept their FIBA Europe League play-off hopes alive with a tight win over Group A leaders Fenerbahce Istanbul. Maurice Whitfield recorded a triple double (10 points, 10 assists and 10 rebounds) to get Nymburk back on track after 2 consecutive losses in the competition.
The home side were in danger of losing their control in the second. They scored just 7 points against Fenerbahce's zone defense and went into halftime trailing by 9 points, 29-38.
Guard Denis Mujagic keyed a Nymburk revival in the third. The 193 cm man had been a factor defensively, but it was his shooting which sparked Nymburk's offense and he made three consecutive three-pointers, enough to see Nymburk take a 52-50 lead into the last quarter.
The two sides traded blows in the final period, but it was Nymburk who delivered the knockout punch. With the scores tied at 63-63, Nymburk made a 14-0 run to close the game. Center Jiri Zidek nailed two three-pointers in the last minute to seal the victory.
Whitfield's triple double was the first in European club competition since Alba Berlin's Derrick Phelps in the 2001 SuproLeague. Mujagic added 17 points.
