CAB Madeira put on a 3-point shooting display (15/25) against French side Hyeres Toulon to rack up 111 points and win their opening FIBA Europe Cup game comfortably.
It wasn’t until the second period that the Portuguese onslaught began, after a tied first quarter that finished 25:25.
Madeira began the second period with 2 threes in a row from Chema Marcos. This followed by triples from Mário Fernandes, Pablo Gimenez and Lisard Termens and the home team finished the half up by 10 points, 56:46.
The halftime break did nothing to interrupt Madeira’s rhythm and they began the second half with a 9-0 run, to further increase their lead to 19 points. As well as the outside threat, Madeira began to dominate inside through Miguel Pichardo (7/9 shooting).
Another 2 three-pointers, this time from Nate Johnston gave Madeira a 20-point lead and by the end of the third, the score was 89:68.
The home team’s dominance continued into the fourth, and despite some good shooting from Toulon guard Laurent Legname (26 points, 8/15 3-pointers), Madeira stayed easily on control.
Pichardo finished with 23 points for Madeira, while Johnston added 20 and Fernandes 17.
