Even though Curtis Bobb had a terrific game with 44 points for Novy Jicin, Hungarian team Debrecen took game two of the play-off series with a 102-110 win in overtime today.
The first offense of the game belonged to the hosts but the first points scored Sejo Bukva for the visitors. The first quarter was a close match. After two scores by Craig Callahan the hosts leaded in 5th minute 11-9.
Lestor Green answered for Debrecen and scored 5 points in a row (11-14). Both teams went on to keep the score close throughout the end of the period (22-24).
Thanks to precise shooting of the visitors at the begining of the second quarter their lead kept growing up to 28-35. Green scored a triple and the difference in score was suddenly 10 points, (30-40). Ondrej Soska stepped up for the hosts and adjusted the score to 42-49 at the half.
The third quarter was the Curtis Bobb Show. The US-Forward scored 3 triples in a row during the first 2 minutes. But despite his outstanding shooting the Novy Jicin could not tie the score.
The visitors kept the lead by 5 to 7 points in the first minutes of the period. The end of this quarter was more beneficial for the host team and another 3-pointer by Bobb tied game at 73-73. After 3 quarters he already had 32 points on his account.
Curtis Bobb again
Bobb again opened the fourth successfully for his team and the Czech finally took the lead by 5. Within 4 minutes Mlekarna Kunin extended their lead to 8.
But the Hungarians were willed enough to avoid athird game in the series. The visitors took advantage of lack of concentration of the hosts. Bukva, Marton Fodor and Gabor Toth changed the score to 89-92 with 120 seconds left.
With less than a minute to go Vid Zarkovic scored lucky triple and Curtis Bobb added two free throws. Novy Jicin was up by 2 again.
But Patrick Lee was also steady from the line and tied the score with free throws 4 seconds before the end (96-96). Marek Stec, missed the last shot, so overtime was needed.
The overtime was better for visitors who also started better. Mlekarna Kunin shot from bad positions and lost some balls. The Hungarians scored some crucial triples won both the game (102-110) and series 0-2.
