Mitteldeutscher BC became the first team in the FIBA Europe Cup Men to make it to a Conference Final Four this season, following their 2:0 play-off sweep of Croatian side Hiron Zagreb.
Hiron granted Mitteldeutscher the homecourt advantage and both games were played on back-to-back in Weissenfels. The German side, which is led by former national team coach Henrik Dettmann, scored an easy 92:53 victory over Hiron in the first game. They retained the momentum in the second match-up, winning comfortably, 67:91.
After ten minutes the Germans had a reassuring 11-point lead and their win was never at risk even though Wendell Alexis, who just got back from a trip to the United States, did not play a single second.
Lithuanian Jonas Elvikis, yesterday's game MVP showed another good performance scoring 18 points, as did Stephen Arigbabu and Marius Petravicius.
17-year-old Manuchar Markoishvili had another strong appearance with 13 points and proved that he is a talent to watch out for in the future.
On Zagreb’s side only Martin Susnjak (18 points) and Bruno Gulin (23 points) were able to keep up with Mitteldeutscher.
